Enamels

Whoopie! I won First in Jewelry at Art in the Barn in Barrington this weekend

I had a great weekend at the Art in the Barn Show in Barrington. I was so excited to win First in Jewelry at the show this weekend!

You can still catch up with me at The Fine Art of Fiber the first weekend in November. I’ll be in the Boutique most of the time, but also will be part of Explorations in Fiber- the subject this year will be trees. Spoiler alert- I’ve made a very large Kumihimo tree!

Deerfield Art Festival

I was just working today on my set up today for the Deerfield Art Festival. I’m so excited. For this show I’m concentrating my display solely on my enamels. I teach enamels at Lillstreet Art Center, as well as own my own kiln which I use in my kitchen alcove. No one has a better alcove than I do! I have light, frequent visits to the kitchen by my family, and lots of ventilation. After that, I complete the work by heading down to Lillstreet where I rent a bench in the group metals studio. How lucky I am! These amazing fellow artists give me ideas on technique, and offer a wonderful fellowship fostered by our common joy in carrying out our craft. At Lillstreet I complete the settings that help set my work apart from so many other enamelists.

Ok. Now for the details of this weekend’s Art show. It can be found at the corner of Deerfield Road and Park Avenue in Deerfield. It is open from 10am to 5pm. The weather this weekend promises to be absolutely perfect! Please come check it out!

Deerfield Art Festival

The summer shows are starting up! I’ll be showing my enamel collection at the Deefield Art Festival on June 3rd and 4th. All winter I’ve been cooking up some beautiful enamel necklaces and earrings, that I think you’ll enjoy this summer.

I particularly like painting bugs and flowers. First I take a picture, saw, press, or cut a copper or silver form, use fine glass particles in a sifter to create a background on the back and front, then paint or draw the bug or flower in special enamel paint. Each step is fired before moving onto the next. After I complete the enameling process I create a silver setting for most of my creations. I do hope you’ll come and check them out!
